Default Dragon Boat summer 2009

So, this year, Allan and I have entered the Dragon Boat races in support of the St. Boniface Research Foundation. However, it's with my work team, RBC.

It also just so happens, our captain is CRAZY!! We don't like really working that hard for this team because we don't like our team. But we are doing it because it's for a good cause.

Anyways, we decided that next year, it would be way more fun to have a Zucru team to represent and paddle with. But, in order to put together a team, we need to know who would be interested in doing it.

What it would require is your time mostly. Time put into pratices, raising money, and the actual race weekend. Also, we could decide which organization we would like to support (most of them being cancer).

I don't have full details on all these things, but i will go ahead with finding things out if there is interest on the Cru's part.

What I do know:

-We would need 25 paddlers so please let me know if you'd be able to do this!

- You have to be able to attend a minimum of 2 practices which are usually scheduled on week nights for 1 hour. We could schedule this based on the majority of the team's availability.

Just remember, it's for a good cause!

My wife and I as well would be in. We passed on this year as we wouldn't be able to make the practices. She was in it last year and was a lot of fun.

So after a few weeks of practice, this weekend we had our races. What a great time! Even though our team was brought together quickly, we formed a bond and were able to improve each race's times.

The atmosphere at the races were fun, lots of things to do and alot of camaraderie amongst everybody. Its a great family event but I think an even better rowdy event!

I have to say, I'm pumped to actually start a ZuCru team as I know with proper training/coaching and practice our team could end up doing this!

Lets start a tenative list. We need 22 people.

1.Allan
2.Cielo
3. Burn
4.Burn's Wife
5.Adrian
6.Adrian's Wife
7.Howard
8.Kevin
9.Ding
10.Melody

As Allan mentioned, it was totally fun! And this is considering we didn't know everyone on our team and our captain was sort of annoying! But we had a blast and can't wait to do this with the Cru!! So, please, join our team!

Copy paste people! Add your name to the list as it grows! We need 22 paddlers, 1 steer person and a drummer. I signed up as a drummer as that was my role this past weekend and i think i got that down. The sooner we have our team, the sooner we can get going on fundraising and getting in shape!

Well, we're still looking into which one we'd do, either the one supporting Canadian Cancer society which is mid September. Or the one supporting St. Boniface Research Foundation in late July. We'll probably do this one as it's summer time and nice out!

It is nicer in July but September is more comfortable to paddle in. When we did the one with Soul Haven. We did it in September and the weather was perfect. Practices were in the evening when it was cooler and more comfortable. The actual races were during the day when it was just right for family to come cheer us on.

***P.S. our provincial bird (the mosquito) isn't out in full force in the fall due to cooler temps.

This is very true! I've done the September one and as long as the weather is nice, this is a good one.

Either way, let's make this a team decision. I'm up for either one.
