Default Garage Floor Epoxy

I got a new garage and I wanted to start it off right. First thing I did was apply epoxy to the concrete floor.

I ended up getting the Rust-Oleum EpoxySheild product.

I actually went with the professional floor series versus their garage floor series as well since it was oil based versus water based. Not a big deal, but I did give up getting a shiny mirror finish for a nice matte finish.

First step was to wash and degrease the floor. This was easy with a new concrete floor. All I did was wet and scrub and then squeegee.

Next step was to "etch" the concrete. This is a chemical that eats up the surface and makes it rough and porous. This is so the epoxy can adhere.

Applying the epoxy. Just like paint. I went with a tan colour, I wasn't brave enough to do a red or blue epoxy.

Waited a week for it all to fully cure. Its okay for foot traffic after 48 hours, but it needs about a week for rough service like hot car tires.

The "sprinkles" were optional, I was on the fence about applying them, but they turned out great. I love it.

SO far, its been a great investment. Makes it easy to clean up oil spills, mud, dirt, etc. Looks great as well, hard to tell from the pics.

Another FIRE and ICE construction project.

Wow! The project is magnificent, as a guy who has spilled paint in his own garage, I'm very jealous.

As Kai Lan would say, this project makes me feel SUPER HAPPY!

I've got a little POR15 spilled in my garage. That stuff is never coming off the floor.
Wonder if that epoxy would keep this stuff from sticking.

I haven't worked with POR15, so I wouldn't be able to confirm, but so far anything that's on the epoxy comes off very easily. I also tried scraping at it and it doesn't seem to scratch or damage the coating at all.

Good thing you went with the commercial grade oil based.
