im looking into picking up a subaru outback for a winter car i dont know to much about subaru's or if its a good idea to have one for winter. i knw the all wheel drive is ideal for our winter conditions but i dont knw much about maintaining a subaru. i hear parts are pretty expensive when it comes to replacing them.
this is the one i'm looking into picking up:

parts for subaru's are not anymore expensive than any other manufacturer. They are also very easy to work on with simple metric hand tools.
I think this would be an excellent model to use for a winter car based on options and price.

+1 for dons comment. these cars are very easy to work on. I suspect it will have a 2.2L in it, aside from small maint things, it should run forever.

one thing to look for is if the head gaskets have been replaced and if they have had their timing belt/ pulley's replaced.
